The Black Doula Project is a not-for-profit organization that operates as a fund to cover the birth and postpartum doula services for Black families in the District of Columbia and Baltimore City.

We are committed to reducing health inequity and closing gaps in care for Black parents during pregnancy and birth.

How it Works

The Black Doula Project is a fund to subsidize doula fees for Black parents in Washington, DC metropolitan area + Baltimore, Maryland. Eligible parents can receive a grant of up to $1,000 for the doula of their choice, in hopes that they experience a safe and nurturing space for their birth.

  • Submit a Request for a Doula

Expectant parent(s) can request funds for their doula fees by first completing our online application. Once complete, your request will be reviewed, and if your application is successful, you will be contacted to discuss next steps.

  • Meet The Black Doula Project

After a successful application, The Black Doula Project will reach out to you to learn more about you and your birthing journey, and explain how our fund works.

  • Get Your Doula Fees Covered

Based on your own search, The Black Doula project will pay fees directly to your birth or postpartum doula of choice.
